Babcock’s liquid gas trade success recognised with third Queen’s Award for Enterprise

Babcock International Group’s LGE business has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise after being recognised for its ‘outstanding short-term growth’ in overseas sales within the liquefied gas transportation market.

Acknowledged in the category of International Trade, this is the company’s third Queen’s Award for Enterprise in five years.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are for outstanding achievements by UK businesses, with Babcock LGE one of 205 recipient organisations this year.

Babcock LGE, based in Rosyth near Edinburgh, started trading in 1967 and is an Engineering Procurement and Project Management business, delivering high quality, reliable, efficient and safe systems for liquefied gas ships.

Overseas sales have almost tripled in the last three years, focusing on South Korea and China. Investment in research has advanced the development of new technologies, such as LNG reliquefaction with ecoSMRT® and LPG Fuel Gas Supply Systems with ecoFGSS®, and has contributed to increased sales and revenue streams.

Babcock LGE’s previous Queen’s Awards came in 2016, when it was honoured for outstanding business achievement in the fields of ‘International Trade’, acknowledging the company’s world market leading performance in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector. It also received an ‘Innovation’ award for its Vent Gas Cooler (VGC™) technology. The awards made Babcock part of a select group of only six companies to receive a double accolade in the 2016 awards.

The application of Babcock LGE’s intellectual property provides financial savings, as well as environmental benefits, to its customers for the bulk transportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, Liquefied Natural Gas and Liquefied Ethane Gas at temperatures down to -163ºC.

Managing Director of Babcock LGE, Neale Campbell, said: “The Queen’s Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Babcock LGE. We are delighted to have been recognised for our outstanding growth in overseas sales over the last three years, and I’m really proud of everyone involved in this achievement.”

Now in its 55th year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, with winning businesses able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years.
