Electrical Apprentice

My favourite part of the job:
What I love about my job is doing something different every day, especially when I can put my individual skills to the test with minimal supervision.
Most challenging thing I’ve ever done:
An apprenticeship with Babcock lets you step up to a range of challenges – my biggest to date was installing a whole new generator unit on board a ship.
My typical day:
I’m in the third year of my electrical apprenticeship, and I’ve had a variety of work placements at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth while alongside studying for more qualifications.
It’s great to put my practical skills to good use each day, like finishing off this wiring job on board a Type 23 warship.
I’ve earned an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and a City and Guilds Technical Certificate Level 2 so far.
Later in the day, I catch up with my manager about my next job, then do some work on my e-portfolio towards my next NVQ level.
I enjoy taking on the responsibility of doing work by myself. The training I’ve been given by Babcock means I’m qualified and trusted to complete a wide range of tasks.
