The Dounreay Decommissioning Framework (DDF) Alliance, led by Babcock International’s Cavendish Nuclear business and supported by KDC Contractors (Veolia) and BAM Nuttall (BAM), has been successfully awarded a contract for the design of a new waste repackaging facility at the Dounreay nuclear site.

The programme of work is expected to run until early 2022 and forms part of Dounreay Site Restoration Limited’s (DSRL’s) Decommissioning Services Framework. The contract is for the concept and scheme design of a new waste repackaging processing facility, which will support delivery of the site’s waste strategy and decommissioning programme.  The Contact Handled Intermediate Level Waste (CHILW) Process Facility will be used to treat and package waste on the site and will leverage knowledge from previous projects of a similar nature delivered by Cavendish Nuclear and the other DDF Alliance partners.

Paul Smith, Cavendish Nuclear Managing Director – NDA & Defence, on behalf of the DDF Alliance said, “We are delighted to have secured this contract and to be continuing with our commitment to support Dounreay’s decommissioning programme and the overarching priority to safely reduce the hazards on the Dounreay site.”
