Babcock’s Innovation and International Trade success recognised with Queen’s Awards

Babcock LGE
Process, part of Babcock International Group, the UK’s leading engineering
support services company, has received two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise – and is
part of an elite group of only six companies receiving a double accolade in
this year’s awards.

The awards,
announced today, are for outstanding business achievement in the fields of
‘International Trade’ and ‘Innovation’ acknowledging the company’s world market
leading performance in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector.

A Queen’s Award
celebrates enterprise and encourages business excellence in the UK and is the
country’s highest accolade for business success.

The awards are
testament to the hard work and ambition of Babcock, a world market leader in
the design, supply and project management of specialised systems for the
processing, handling and storage of liquefied gases on new build gas carriers.  Winners of the Queen’s Awards can expect an
invitation to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace.

Receiving both
awards, which are only given for the highest level of excellence in each
category, is a major achievement for the rapidly growing Babcock business unit
that has increased its workforce in Scotland from 40 to over 120 in four years,
and is still actively recruiting. This expansion has also allowed Babcock to continue
to support an active UK – wide SME supply chain.

: “This is a very
proud day for every member of the Babcock team. Thanks to our integrated
business structure and our dedication to innovation we have become a market
leader in LPG shipping solutions, over the past three years. Receiving one
Queen’s Award would have been a remarkable achievement, but to have been
successful in two categories really speaks volumes about our team, and the
ambition and dedication it has demonstrated to make us a global leader in LPG
technology.”

With future growth
focussing on the development of innovative technology to meet the need for
natural gas as a clean and efficient engine fuel for a variety of vessels, the
Babcock team is developing its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) business capability while
continuing to build strong relationships with the world’s largest shipyards,
including Hyundai and Daewoo in South Korea, Jiangnan
in China and Namura in Japan.

With extensive
experience and first class capabilities, Babcock is keen to continue to push
the business onto the next level and to carry on exporting its expertise and
patented technology to ship owners across the world, including the Vent Gas
Cooler (VGC™) system, which enables enhanced
refrigeration and handling of LPG products while minimising hydrocarbon
emissions, SuperCooler™ and FGSV0™ technology, which provides a true
‘zero-emissions’ solution for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply vessels.

Technical notes:

Babcock’s
patented Vent Gas Cooler technology, available as an addition to all LPG cargo
handling systems, offers proven ‘win-win’ results for the customer, such as
increased refrigeration capacity of a plant by approximately 20% compared to
traditional designs, with less power consumption and therefore lower running
costs.
