Digital technology is set to transform the defence sector
Digital technology is set to transform the defence sector over the coming years bringing with it new opportunities and ways of working that industry will need to embrace, a national conference will hear this week.
Babcock International, the Aerospace and Defence company, is speaking at Team Defence Information’s (TDI) Digital Supply Chain Seminar (DSCS) which will be attended by the UK’s leading defence businesses.
Jon Hall, Chair of TDI and Babcock’s Managing Director of Technology, will tell the virtual conference that the benefits of digital technologies and techniques such as Digital Thread, AI – artificial intelligence and digital twins, will only be fully realised if they are supported by close cooperation between MOD, industry and academia.
“Innovations in technology allow us to exploit digital information as never before, and we have the tools to do this. What’s important is that all of this is done in parallel with national frameworks such as Road to Zero so we can fully capitalise on the benefits that these technologies can bring.
“Enabling our people to have the right skillset is fundamental to delivering changes in support, whether it’s systems integration expertise or data analysis. I know at Babcock, we’re doing that. Collaborative platforms like TDI, will also be crucial in bringing defence strands from skills to sustainability solutions together,” he added.
During the event, there will also be presentations on iSupport360, Babcock’s approach to delivering support through the integration and application of digital technologies, leading to increased value for our customers.
Babcock is also entering the event’s annual Excellence Awards, this year continuing the theme of collaboration in defence with the winner announced at the end of the event.
This year’s conference is virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions, but delegates will have access to all materials for a month post the event.
