Babcock International celebrates two award wins at the Maritime UK Awards

Babcock’s LGE (Liquid Gas Equipment) business and Cavendish Nuclear are celebrating two award wins at this year’s Maritime UK Awards.

Kat Tanner won Electrical Design Apprentice for Cavendish Nuclear in the Apprentice of the Year category, while Babcock scooped the accolade for Innovation.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place at the Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 10 March.

With the UK Government having launched its first long-term strategy for the sector, Maritime 2050, the awards ceremony was the ideal opportunity to shine the spotlight on many of the projects being delivered in response to the strategy.

Celebrating her win as Apprentice of the Year, Kat said: “I am delighted to win this award. I was thrilled to be nominated but to win the award is an honour. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the Cavendish Nuclear team and I hope winning this award will inspire more young people, in particular young women, to consider a career in the industry.”

Babcock won the Innovation award, acknowledging the company’s world-leading, environmentally focussed and engineering-led cargo handling and fuel gas solutions to international shipyards and shipowners.

In the past year, Babcock has successfully delivered multiple projects across the suite of innovative technology including ecoFGSS® technology for LPG fuel gas supply system and the first ecoETHN® system for fuel gas supply system and relique faction system on-board a newbuilding Ethane ship. Babcock LGE has an exceptional track record of developing and implementing market-facing innovative technology also extends its customers base in the marine gas transportation market, building relationships with global shipyards, ship-owners and energy majors.

Neale Campbell, Managing Director of Babcock’s LGE business, said: “We are honoured to win this prestigious award from Maritime UK, which is a great achievement for the company.

“Babcock is constantly evolving in line with customer and market requirements, and this award is testament to the hard work and ambition of every member of the team and is at the heart of Babcock’s core purpose – to create a safe and secure world, together.”

The Maritime UK Awards recognise the very best of the UK’s maritime sector, organised by industry, for the benefit of the industry.
