Babcock secures ten year contract extension supporting the Royal Navy’s Marine Rotating Electrical Machinery
Babcock International, the Aerospace, Defence and Security Company has been awarded a ten-year contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to continue delivering the Marine Rotating Electrical Machinery (MREM) Asset Availability Service (AAS) to the Royal Navy.
The agreement, worth c £45m will see Babcock deliver the in-service provision of equipment availability, alongside support, maintenance and refit stores, technical services and post design services across the surface ship and submarine fleet.
The equipment comprises of generators and motor generators which provide all low voltage electrical power to the platform, the associated control equipment to maintain the quality of the power supply, motors for critical equipment such as pumps, air conditioning, and steering and submarine propulsion motors. Support of MREM is important in maintaining the safety and availability of multiple major Royal Navy assets including the Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD).
