Babcock’s LGE business wins King’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation
Babcock’s LGE business has been awarded a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category.
The prestigious award recognises the business for the development and successful commercialisation of our pioneering ecoSMRT® technology.
Over the last year, our LGE business has marked two significant milestones in our ecoSMRT® programme, securing well over 100 orders since the product was launched six years ago, with nearly 60 systems now in service worldwide on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers for a range of global shipowners.
The ecoSMRT® LNG boil off gas (BOG) reliquefaction plant has been a game-changer in the global LNG shipping market, which has seen significant growth over the past six years, with record breaking new-build orders.
Recognised in the category of Innovation, this is our fourth award, having previously received three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in 2016 (Innovation and International Trade) and 2021 (International Trade). The double award in 2016 made our LGE business part of a select group of only six companies to receive a double accolade that year.
Neale Campbell, Managing Director of Babcock’s LGE business, said: “To be awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category is a tremendous achievement and recognition for our business and our talented team. We are delighted to have been recognised for our technical and commercial success with ecoSMRT®. The continued commitment and expertise of the teams in the UK, Korea and USA have made ecoSMRT® a huge success, and we anticipate continued growth in line with increasing global demand for LNG.”
Our LGE business provides cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for the liquefied gas markets. Our environmentally-focused technologies improve vessel efficiency and enhance performance, delivering value to customers throughout the entire life of the vessel.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are for outstanding achievement by UK business with more than 7,000 UK enterprises having received this Royal recognition since the Awards were first created in 1965, then known as The Queen’s Award to Industry.
