Benefits of Babcock’s Transfer of Knowledge and Technology in Poland
Babcock’s support to PGZ-Miecznik consortium for the delivery of three Miecznik class frigates continues at pace as our expertise and experience enhances the Polish programme.
With the first cut of steel and the laying of the keel for ship one happening in quick succession, and a new construction hall that will house the frigates in Poland nearing completion, our support to Poland’s frigate programme is helping to deliver a sovereign defence capability.
The Transfer of Knowledge and Technology (TOKAT) framework agreement between Babcock and the PGZ consortium signed in 2022 is providing opportunities for us to forge closer ties with our Polish partners.
In recent months, we have worked with the team at PGZ-Miecznik consortium to offer a range of advice and support, which has included job shadowing at our Rosyth site and supporting the implementation of a modern approach to warship acceptance.
Micro panel line operators from Babcock have also shared first-hand experiences with their counterparts in Poland, who have similar automated equipment newly installed in their Gdynia facility.
Sam Barton, Babcock’s Programme Director, Poland, said: “TOKAT is providing both companies with invaluable opportunities to develop ways to accelerate elements of the Miecznik programme.
“Knowledge from our extensive operations, including the UK’s Type 31 programme built at our Rosyth facility, has helped to inform best practice and develop relationships between Babcock and PGZ-SW employees.
“The cultural bonds that have been fostered over many years between the UK and Poland and that continue to grow are a real asset to the programme and provide the conditions for excellent working relationships which really support the exchange and transfer of knowledge.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with PGZ-Miecznik consortium and delivering first-class frigates through our shared endeavour.”
