Modern Apprenticeship Success for Babcock Learner
Building on the success of Babcock’s award of Quality Training Provider of the Year in Scotland, Babcock learner Duncan Shaw has recently been named Level 2 Apprentice of the Year at Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Awards 2014.
The award, which recognises apprentices who have displayed dedication and commitment to the Modern Apprenticeship route of progressing their career, acknowledges the impact that Duncan has had at his employer’s restaurant in Edinburgh.
Days after joining Sylvester’s restaurant kitchen porter Duncan Shaw established himself as a key member of the team. Within weeks, his commitment led to a professional chef Apprenticeship with leading restaurateur Kieran Sylvester. Keiran’s longer term plans include the opening of a second restaurant with Duncan running the original Sylvesters in the capital.
His employer believes the 18-year-old has exceeded his expectations at every level. “He is a highly competent chef who adds value to every aspect of the restaurant including menu design, service and restaurant management.”
Susie Evans, Babcock’s Regional Manager – Scotland said: “ I am absolutely thrilled that Duncan was the winner in his category at the Modern Apprenticeship of the Year awards sponsored by Skills Development Scotland. It is such a prestigious event and a fantastic result for Babcock in Scotland.”
