Babcock has been awarded a contract extension by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to continue supporting urgent operational requirements for Ukraine’s military land assets.

The contract extension means Babcock will continue providing vital equipment support services to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, keeping their vehicles available for operations and, where needed, returning them to service as quickly as possible.

The framework agreement with the UK MOD, means that as well as maintaining military vehicles and equipment, Babcock will manage the supply chain and spares while continuing to train the Ukrainian military to conduct the repairs themselves.

Babcock has been steadfast in its support to Ukraine, performing this role for the last 12 months. From July 2024, it will now deliver another critical period of support for the Ukrainian armed forces, with further options to extend beyond this date.

Currently providing the maintenance, repair and asset management of British Army vehicles and equipment in the UK, the contract extension demonstrates Babcock’s ability to provide critical operational support internationally.

David Lockwood, Babcock CEO said: “Ukraine’s military need their critical defence assets to be operational; this contract extension enables Babcock to get vehicles and equipment back onto operations as quickly as possible.

“Our significant experience and expertise on these platforms, coupled with our understanding of the supply chain, really increases the reliability and availability of these important assets for the Ukrainian armed forces, when they need it most”.

Maria Eagle, Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry said: “Since Russia’s illegal invasion, equipment developed by UK defence companies has been critical to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“This agreement will get vital equipment back on the battlefield at pace and strengthen Ukraine’s fight.”

In June 2021, Babcock signed a Memorandum of Implementation (MoI) with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the UK Government and has been delivering technical and engineering support to Ukraine’s military from the wider region since July 2023.  Military assets that Babcock has been supporting over the last year include platforms donated by the UK Ministry of Defence under the various tranches of financial and non-financial support provided by the UK.
