Babcock is proud to be supporting one of the biggest student engineering events in Europe today – Formula Student (FS) 2023.

We’ll be joining hundreds of students at the kick-off event, Learn to Win, held at Coventry’s Manufacturing Technology Centre in a bid to attract the best next-gen talent.

Babcock will return as the official FS Artificial Intelligence (FS-AI) Partner in 2023, and we are also supporting the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Challenge. Both are run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

FS is Europe’s most established educational engineering competition and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023.

Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such Patron, Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering, with over 100 university teams taking part every year.

Focusing on digital and data skills, young engineers and technologists, is a key area for Babcock, said its Chief Technology Officer Dr Richard Drake. He said: “I’m delighted Babcock is supporting these events once more because it is absolutely vital we work with the next generation of young engineers and technologists to get the skills we need for the future in some of the core technology capabilities we’re developing now.”

Babcock’s Head of Digital and Data Integration, Steve Penver, who was on hand to offer technical advice to teams at the event, added: “This is about working side-by-side with these teams, mentoring them and encouraging them to be curious and experiment with advanced data technologies like AI.”
